IN THE PINK Advent 4 2015

Issue 325
Glad Tidings of Great Joy
We are delighted to be able announce that Westminster City Council have granted planning permission for the new building at St Mary Mags. On Tuesday night the Planning Committee approved the application with no queries at all, having received over 100 representations of support for the project and a handful against (rather the opposite proportions to most applications). So, many thanks to all those of you who wrote in to support the project.

This permission enables us to go forward and make applications to major grant giving trusts for further funding, which is essential if we are to convince Heritage Lottery Fund that the project is viable. Basically we need to raise £2.5 million in the next 6 months to match the HLF contribution. If all goes well we could possibly start on site in a year’s time. We should have the War Memorial Calvary refurbished and re-erected much sooner than that, which will be a good sign of progress. Remember that the project is not only to build the new wing (which will house lavatories, lift, cafĂ© and education room), but also do major conservation works in the church, and to fund a programme of heritage–related activity for 3 years.
