IN THE PINK 2nd before Lent 2017

Issue 378
Lent Starts Next Week
Remember to bring your old palm crosses to church so that we can turn them into ash. The Ash Wednesday Service will be at St Mary Mags at 8pm. If you want to make a confession before Lent, please make an appointment with Fr. Henry. We shall be having a group “Tea and Tunes” on Sunday afternoons during Lent, in the meeting room at St Peter’s at 3:30pm. We shall be reading a bit of scripture, and listening to some music over tea and cakes.

Calling All Teachers
The Church of England has twenty of the best secondary schools in London, but they are struggling to recruit staff. Are you a teacher? Do you fancy a career change to become a teacher? Recent graduate, fancy teaching? Do you know church goers who might answer “yes” to these questions?  The London Diocesan Board for Schools would like to hear from you. They are putting on a recruitment event tomorrow from 3pm to 7pm at the LDBS offices at London Diocesan House, 36 Causton Street, SW1P 4AU (Pimlico Tube, 36 bus).

Parish Electoral Roll
We have to revise the Parish Electoral Rolls before the Annual Meetings. We will be revising St Peter’s from 10th to 17th March, so please check your details on the 2016 roll, and if they are wrong, or you are not there at all, please fill in a new form and hand it to Fr. Henry.

March Book Club
The book to read is “The Lonely Londoners” by Sam Selvon, a pioneering novel about the experience of West Indians coming to London in the 1950s. It’s all about life on the Harrow Road sixty years ago, and is well worth reading. We are meeting on Wednesday 8th March at 7:30 pm in the Meeting Room at St Peter’s. The usual posters are up in church so you can let us know whether you might be coming.

First Communion
Our policy is that we admit children to Holy Communion who are baptized, are regular worshippers, are 7 years old, and who want to do this, and are supported by their parents. We do this after several weeks’ preparation which takes place in the context of the Children’s Church at St Peter’s, and is set up as required at St Mary Mags. Normally we have a First Communion Service in the summer (though sometimes it is after the summer holiday). If you are interested in your child being admitted to Holy Communion, please speak to Fr Henry.

Women’s Social Group
The Women’s Social Group is now meeting on the last Wednesday of each month, so next meeting is Wednesday 22nd February at 7pm in the Meeting Room at St Peter’s.

IN THE PINK 3rd before Lent 2017

 Issue 377
Looking Towards Lent
The Ash Wednesday Service will be at St Mary Mags at 8pm. If you want to make a confession before Lent, please arrange it with Fr. Henry. During Lent we hope to have some sessions on Sunday afternoons which we hope will be enjoyable as well as spiritually helpful. Our neighbours at St Augustine’s are having a prayer workshop on Saturday 18th March (details on posters) and will have a Friday evening study group (more details later). Remember to bring your old palm crosses to church!

Confirmation
Confirmation is the sacrament of adult membership of the Church. It is the normal way that adults are admitted to Holy Communion. If you come to church but don’t receive Communion, then you ought to think about being confirmed. If you’ve never been baptized, don’t worry, the two can happen together. As confirmation is the culmination of baptism. People who have been admitted to Communion as children ought to get confirmed when they feel an adult commitment to Christ. We usually do confirmation preparation in the summer and Autumn, but it would be good to start getting names. So, speak to Fr Henry.
