IN THE PINK Easter 5 2018

  Issue 438
PCC Meetings
St Peter’s PCC meets at 7pm on Wednesday 9th May in the Meeting Room. St Mary Magdalene’s PCC meets at 7pm on Thursday 10th May in the Vicarage.

May Book Club
The Book Club meets at 7:30pm on Wednesday 30th May in the meeting room at St Peter’s. We have decided to read a classic this time.
The book is “Howards End” by E.M. Forster. Usual lists in church.

Christian Aid Week
Christian Aid Week falls this year on 13th-19th May, so we shall be having retiring collections in church on Sunday 13th May. We will be doing “The Big Brekkie” for Christian Aid Week, thanks to Tea and Toast. Watch out for more details. If you could serve as a Christian Aid representative for the Benefice, please contact Fr Henry.

Music Society
The May concert “Sussex House Singers and Soloists” will be held at Holy Trinity, Sloane Street, on Saturday 19th May at 6pm. Do pick up a ticket from church if you would like to go.

Canalway Cavalcade
Do remember the Canalway Cavalcade is held around the Little Venice Pool on 4th-6th May.

Many thanks
To Indra who has helped us by buying a new lace-edged linen altar cloth for St Peter’s, and is supporting work in the garden.

The New Bishop
Bishop Sarah Mullally will be installed at the Cathedral on Saturday 12th May. There will be an opportunity to see her in conversation with the Dean of St Paul’s on Monday 4th June 6.30 – 8pm. This is a free event but you will need to register for tickets at www.stpauls.co.uk/newbishop

Local election
Make sure you vote in the Borough election on Thursday 3rd May.

Confirmation
Thank you for all your prayers and support for Jordan Singh and Immanuela Adegbemiro, who were confirmed at the Easter Vigil at St Paul’s Cathedral. This was a special one-off, and we shall be having a Parish Confirmation on 2nd September. Confirmation is the normal mark of adult membership of the Church and the way that adults are admitted to Communion. So if you are an adult who attends regularly and are not a communicant, perhaps you should be confirmed. As we admit children to Holy Communion there comes a point when those young people should make their own adult commitment to Christ (from 16 on) so there are some young people in that category. We will be starting to arrange preparation soon, so please speak to Fr Henry if you are interested in being confirmed.

IN THE PINK Easter 3 2018

   Issue 436
St Mary Magdalene’s Annual Parochial Church Meeting
St Mary’s Annual meeting is on Tuesday, 17th April in the Vestry at 7pm. Please come along to the meeting. Nomination lists for the PCC are up in church. Please nominate people to serve on the PCC. Churchwardens’ nomination forms are obtained from Father Henry.

Prayer Spaces in Schools
St Mary Magdalene Primary School are holding a “Prayer Spaces in Schools” day for their Key Stage 2 classes on Monday 23rd April. The day will involve activities where the children can reflect or pray on issues they see in the world around them. The school intends to create a day where all children can feel included and gain something from the experience. For the day to be successful they need adult volunteers to manage the activities. If you feel you can help, either for the whole day or just for a few hours, then do come along to the Volunteers Meeting at 5pm on Wednesday 18th April to find out more. Do let the school know you can attend by email or phone. office@st-mm.co.uk or 020 7040555.

Christian Aid Week
Christian Aid Week falls this year on 13th-19th May, so we shall be having retiring collections on church on Sunday 13th May. We hope to be able to do something else as well to support Christian Aid, as our usual Music Society concert will not be happening at St Mary Mags this year, and so is not going to give us a collection for Christian Aid.

Thy Kingdom Come
This will ne a national, indeed world-wide initiative of prayer over the days between Ascension and Pentecost, so 10th – 20th May. The diocese has made resource materials available which we shall be using. The most important thing, though, is to start planning to factor it into your own routine of prayer. We shall be praying for the growth of God’s Church, always a good topic.

May Book Club
The Book Club meets at 7:30pm on Wednesday 30th May in the meeting room at St Peter’s. We have decided to read a classic this time.
The book is “Howards End” by E.M. Forster. Usual lists in church.
